pity parade

the show last night was unsuccessful - faun fables was really awesome, for the two minutes i saw them (the amplified violinist has at least one dread hanging down past her hip, and the male basist wears a long skirt) but sadly bars don't admit hippies and underage girls for free, so we were kindly tapped on the shoulder and told to "get the fuck out".

so. check it out. my incredibly outdated obsessions.

everyone here at my west oakland home has abandoned it to go to 1. the rainbow gathering in new mexico, or 2. mutant fest in the woods of oregon. apparently banhart and oberst have been spotted at rainbow gatherings, or so i've heard via the birds, and i'm sure at the autonomous mutant festival 2009 there is bound to be a zach condon or two somewhere. but like him and his cancelled european tour, i feel the need to take some personal time to my self, to drive my self to the edges of insanity and back, again. thus i have decided to skip out on various opportunities that the world has opened for me. my ride to mutant fest left this morning without me. my 2nd potential dj shift at pirate cat radio in the mission of san francisco was refused by me. so i sit in an empty house in west oakland, playing my music as loud as possible, listening to the next door neighbors sell crack 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, humbly using youtube as my inspiration for future songs.

i think i'm going to skip out on the pride parade in the city today to have a pity party by my self. or maybe a shame parade with my accordion down by the bart station, if i'm lucky.
really really.

oakland basements rock the hazmat

If you're looking for the next big thing, look no farther than your house - no, I don't mean the Hazmat Warehouse (sometimes referred to as Your House) I mean your very own dusty, dirty, grimy, asbestos-covered basement, hopefully in some hip, slightly sketchy area between west Oakland and north Bezerkeley.

Amid various stresses among which are: calculus, mutant fest, pirate radio, band, boys, etc., I was feeling very unenlightened, so I bought a pint of Jack and went to this show in Oakland with my new friend Adrian whom I met at the Uptown. It was a two-block-away alternative to the weekly punk show at the Hazmat, and I'd say it was the right choice. Animal Collective is reborn over and over in these basements in Oakland, and skinny dudes in white 80's heels listen with dreamy eyes closed as ambient moods swirl in psychedelic colors between their tattooed bodies. I, needless to say, crashed on the couch in the garden, in a very strange metaphysical state of mind.

Got to go to KALX special events orientation now, and then a show at Bottom of the Hill, I'll let you know how it goes. Listen up for my first radio show in 7 months, after an epic tour of the country! Tuesday June 30th 3:30 - 6 am, 90.7 KALX.
